Buy, sell clothes, toys at Upstate Kids Consignment Sale

BY JAKE B. GROVE

When was the last time you walked into Target or Walmart and didn't come out with something for the kids? It might have been a toy or some new gadget you think you have to have to keep an eye on them. Maybe it's just all those clothes they grow out of in 45 seconds and you go back to the store for more a week later.

And when was the last time you looked at your walk-in closet and realized all that stuff your kids have grown out of is taking up massive amounts of your space. Instead of a wonderland of clear space, you have to shove the door closed to accommodate the old stroller, toys they never played with and baby stuff you never got out of the box. You've always said you're going to do a yard sale, but that day never seems to come.

Whether you need stuff or you need to get rid of stuff, March 10-14 is the five-day stretch you have been waiting for. Those are the dates for the Upstate Kids Consignment Sale at the Civic Center of Anderson, and those are the days that all (or at least most) of your prayers will be answered.

The Upstate Kids Consignment Sale rolls through Anderson twice a year in the spring and the fall. The dates fall right around March and August and the sale involves thousands upon thousands of items for all your baby, infant, toddler and beyond. But this isn't just a drop and go kind of sale. The organizers are meticulous about what they accept for sale and inspect each item for wear, tear and usefulness to the hundreds of shoppers who come through the doors over the course of the event.

Everything from strollers and cloth diapers to battery-powered vehicle toys and boutique clothing will be on sale inside the Civic Center. Sellers can register now and create price tags for their items while shoppers can expect a whirlwind of activity beginning Tuesday with the VIP presale and ending on March 14 with the final six hours of the sale and plenty of discounts on most everything that is left. There will also be children-centric vendors on hand at the Upstate Kids Consignment Sale offering a little of everything you might not be able to find at the sale itself.

The sale will start with the VIP presale for volunteers and other invited guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and continues from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and March 12-13. The last day will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 14 before the sale moves on through the Upstate to Clemson, Seneca and Easley. The VIP presale is a ticketed event and cost is $5 per person. Teachers and military service members are admitted free with a valid ID.
